Specialist Risk Group welcomes two senior hires following its entry to the Credit & Political Risk market

London, UK - 29 April 2025 - Specialist Risk Group (SRG), one of the fastest-growing global insurance intermediaries, is proud to announce the recruitment of two senior hires, Ed Nicholson and Matt Solley.

This development follows SRG’s agreement with Tysers to transfer its Credit & Political Risk (re)insurance business, led by market veteran John Lentaigne, to SRG. John and his team bring deep technical expertise, longstanding insurer relationships, and a strong reputation for delivering tailored solutions to complex risk challenges. Their move to SRG represents a clear vote of confidence in SRG’s platform, people, and long-term vision.

Ed Nicholson joins SRG with extensive experience advising banks, funds, and corporates on structured and trade finance transactions. His track record at JLT and more recently at Marsh, where he developed strong relationships with global clients and markets, brings critical insight to SRG’s growth ambitions.

Matt Solley brings over two decades of experience in political risk and structured credit, most recently leading Gallagher’s team in the sector. His broking background, combined with a global outlook and deep market knowledge, significantly enhances SRG’s ability to support clients navigating complex geopolitical and economic risks.

This move is part of SRG’s broader strategy to be the natural home for specialist talent and to create world-class propositions in complex and evolving lines of insurance. With further investment underway in talent and infrastructure, the Credit & Political Risk team is set to become a major force in the global market, offering innovative, client-focused solutions to corporates, financial institutions, public agencies, exporters, and commodity traders.

Warren Downey, Group CEO of SRG, said:

“We are building something special at SRG, an environment where exceptional specialist talent can thrive and do their best work. Entering the Credit & Political Risk market is a natural extension of our strategy to grow internationally in complex and high-value areas. The combination of John’s leadership, and the arrivals of Ed and Matt, positions us at the forefront of this specialist market. Their expertise, leadership, and shared values align perfectly with our vision, and I’m excited to see what we will achieve together.”

John Lentaigne, Head of Credit & Political Risk at SRG, said:

“Joining SRG has given our team a fantastic platform to grow and do what we do best, deliver highly tailored, strategic risk solutions to clients across the globe. The addition of Ed and Matt is a major step forward in building a world-class Credit & Political Risk capability. Their reputations speak for themselves, and I’m thrilled to be working with two professionals who bring such deep insight, integrity, and technical strength. With SRG’s support and ambition behind us, we’re well positioned to create something truly market-leading in this space.”
